The connection type depends on the capacity of student or staffmember and/or on the location:
Inside of faculties and departments you can connect your computer to the network by means of a cable (coax/utp), an ip-number needs to be requested in advance. After that tcp/ip needs to be configured.
Students staying in one of the studenthomes can surf to the helpdesk, Minerva and Athena website and to the UGent webmail site. For other websites they need to set up a VPN connection.
On other locations, both students and members of staff have the choice between setting up a dial-in connection (phone, modem) or provided that they have an internet connection, setting up a VPN connection. Both alternatives provide full access to UGentNet (accessing internal sites, mounting etc.).
Finally, there is still the possibility left to connect to UGentNet wirelessly from a number of buildings of the university by means of Wi-Fi.
