Authentication of and info about users

If you web develop applications within your faculty department, department or faculty it is possible that you would like to grant access to a particular application or to protected information, using your users' login name and password, or that you need to access certain information from the central LDAP server.

• For the authentication of users based on login name and password, you use CAS.
• If you develop an application which requires access to restricted LDAP attributes, you need to file a request.

You can also use the UGent LDAP server in other contexts

• Using the "Phone book" on the UGent website.
• As address book in your e-mail client.
• To provide dynamic lists of users (based on an LDAP query) for
  • Access to shared disk space (shares).
  • Mailing lists on lists.ugent.be.
