Protect your data
- Do not open any files or links that you do not completely trust. Before you know it, your device will the debilitated by malware. If your device is infected by a hostage virus or "cryptoware", a commonly occurring problem, all your files will be rendered inaccessible. Stay alert!
- You are better off using disk space and/or storage offered by DICT than if you store your data on your own hard disks and USB sticks. The UGent network and its central systems are securely maintained by specialists. The data is automatically included in various backup systems.
- Please note: the WWW:-disk is publicly accessible and can therefore be accessed worldwide. A tiny human error can lead to a serious data leak.
- When working, we recommend making as much use as possible of the applications offered by Athena.UGent.be. This way, you can be assured of safe access to the central disk space.
- Do not use external cloud services for personal data or confidential information. These services are not always as safe or reliable as you would like. Would you still like to store sensitive data in the cloud? Encrypt these first using cryptographic tools.
