Frequently asked questions about security

Follow the instructions below to remove malicious or unknown browser extensions.

 

Google Chrome

  • Open Chrome
  • Click on the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner
  • Select Extensions > Manage Extensions
  • Look for the extension in the list and select Remove

 

Microsoft Edge

  • Open Edge
  • Click on the three dots (…) in the top right corner
  • Select Extensions > Manage Extensions
  • Look for the extension in the list and select Remove

 

Mozilla Firefox

  • Open Firefox
  • Click the menu button (☰)  in the top right corner
  • Click Extensions and themes and select Extensions
  • Scroll through the list of extensions
  • Click the three dots (…) for the extension you wish to remove
  • Select Remove in the menu

 

Safari (macOS)

  • Open Safari
  • From the Safari menu in the menu bar, choose Settings (or Preferences).
  • Click Extensions
  • To remove an extension, select the it and click the Uninstall button.

To secure your web server with HTTPS, you must ensure that you have correctly functioning SSL certificates.

UGent employees can create and sign certificates themselves. An alternative is to use LetsEncrypt to request certificates and renew them automatically.

Nowadays, recent versions of web servers such as Apache have built-in support for this. It is therefore not necessary to use certbot, for example, to process LetsEncrypt certificates. See this tutorial for more information. You can also use this on Windows.
