Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

This page is intended for staff members. Students will find customized tips here.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)?

Bring Your Own Device literally means 'Working with your own personal Device'. In a work-related environment we spontaneously think about laptops, tablets or smartphone, even though other applications are also possible.

Which devices?

At UGent it concerns devices that are NOT configured by DICT ("uitgerold"), a private notebook, a home-PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.
Even laptops for home use that were purchased in the past through a "Notebook promotion" are also included

BYOD: laptops

To use your own laptop at UGent, you need to know how to do it and what you may need to provide in advance.

Microsoft devices/apps

UGent offers Office365, for students and employee's. You need an UGent account for it.
Your UGent account is a school account (for students) or a work account (for employees).
To guarantee information security, additional account(s) are required on your (shared) devices.
In "Points of attention for working safely with IT resources" you will find that if family members or third parties use the same device, this must be done under a separate account.
