All students and staff at Ghent University have access to the 'Academic Software' software platform: https://www.academicsoftware.eu/login

The purpose of this platform is mainly to offer software for local installation on so-called Bring Your Own Devices, partly to replace Athena and the software share. 

For staff, please DO NOT use Academic Software on Ghent University Dell framework contract devices.

The following applications can currently be downloaded (at no extra cost):
Mendeley
QGIS
Zotero
IBM SPSS
Maple
EndNote
Acrobat Reader

In addition, there are another 15 applications that users can purchase via this platform at academic prices: including Parallels.
Installation instructions are included with each application and users can contact the Academic Software helpdesk for support. Contact details are listed on the site.
The offering on this platform will be further expanded in the coming weeks and months.

Only the PDF viewer Adobe Reader is available on Athena. Adobe does not offer concurrent use licenses. This makes it prohibitively expensive to purchase licenses for all employees, for example. Staff members, departments or services can purchase individual academic licenses.

DICT supports the antivirus application Microsoft Defender Antivirus. This is built into Windows 10 and Windows 11 by default, so there is no need to install another additional antivirus programme on Windows PCs.

On Friday 13 January, an erroneous protection rule had been activated in the Defender software by Microsoft in the morning. For those with that rule active, certain shortcuts were mistakenly considered malicious and removed. The error was acknowledged by Microsoft and quickly switched back off.

DICT has worked out a solution to put the most important shortcuts back in the Start menu (i.e. not on the Desktop). This application runs automatically. In the Message window at the bottom right, you can then see notifications of the 'Shortcut Repair' application from UGent's Intune Company Portal ('Company Portal'). More info on the Company Portal.

Nowhere was the linked software removed, nor any data or documents. So all software still works. You can always start any application via Explorer/Explorer by looking for the software there or you can, for example, start Word via a .docx file. Or e.g. create a new Word file by right-clicking.

Follow up the further status via the helpdesk website.

Ghent University has a "Campus Licence" for the usage of Sigmaplot.
The licence agreement does not allow to download the software.

The MOJO congress registration software allows you to manage online registrations and payments for your event (congress, symposium, conference, etc.).

By the end of 2023, we will stop using the MOJO conference registration software. Therefore, we strongly advise against creating any conference pages that do not end before 31/12/2023.
Various options are being considered for conference software with integration to a payment platform. More information will be provided soon.
